I am so very sorry to have to sell this, but my arthritis is at the point where I simply can not play this well any more. It needs a new owner to make beautiful music with it. I am also selling my Breedlove 12 string for the same reason.
This is a stunning instrument in every sense. In virtually new condition.
I had this handcrafted to my specifications in the Veillette shop in Woodstock, NY. I traveled up to Woodstock to see it while it was being built. The top is solid Sitka Spruce. The sides and back are flamed maple with a natural finish. Instead of the usual violin-like soundholes, I have an oval one. Instead of the pick-up controls being mounted on the side of the instrument, I had Joe install the pick-up internally so as to preserve the natural beauty of the wood. The controls are on the side of the soundhole. In addition, he cut a soundport on the side so as you play you can hear the tone pretty much as someone sitting in front of you. It's unique.
The pick-up/pre-amp is the Seymour Duncan D-Tar. All is in working order.
This is a mandolin-sounding instrument, tuned D to D, two half-tones lower than a full octave above normal guitar tuning. The strings are in courses/unisons, not octaves. The sound is ethereal, to say the least. There are many YouTube videos where you can hear this, as well as sound clips on the Veillette website.
Dave Matthews and Khaki King and Colin Hay all play this instrument among many others.
Here is Veillette's description:
Our most popular Acoustic model, the Gryphon has inspired and intrigued players all over the world, and been seen and heard on some of the biggest stages and best studios in the industry. Celestial, sparkling highs and punchy mid-register give the Gryphon unique cut and punch and an unusually wide range of applications. Guitarists will love being able to play mandolin-style parts in a new high register, and even mandolin players will discover new horizons, including the ability to play guitar-like or fingerstyle patterns in a mandolin tonality and range.
The Gryphon is designed for D tuning (equivalent to the 10th fret of a standard guitar). This unique range is make possible by its short scale length (18.5") and custom strings (gauges .009" to .042").
The unison courses of the Gryphon 12 produce a rich natural chorus and depth that brings to mind mandolins, bouzoukis, quatros, and other traditional folk instruments -- along with a powerful rhythm "chop".
