1981-’82 Ibanez ST90 Studio Series "Brazilian Red" swirl finish.
Serial number L810076 translates to the 76th instrument made in December of 1981. Brazilian Red “swirl” finish. There are no markings stamped in the neck pocket or on the heel of the neck (see pics).
These are pretty rare guitars, only produced for a year and they don’t seem to come up for sale very often.
Very good condition. Some scratches and nicks in the finish, as you’d expect to see on a 42 year old guitar. There are some noticeable scratches on the upper edge of the pickguard above the pickups.
Nicely set up. Straight neck, truss rod works as it should, low action, electronics work fine, no cracks or repairs. NO fret wear, frets have their full height. Currently strung with/set up for .010-.046 strings. It could use new strings.
The trem bar is missing (it’s a heavier gauge bar, probably similar to a Floyd Rose bar) but peering into the hole with a flashlight reveals that the threads appear to be intact). All five trem springs are installed.
All parts are original except that the wires from the pickup selector switch to the pots and jack appear to have been replaced (white and green non-shielded wire, the rest of the guitar’s wiring is shielded wire with black insulation. The pickup selector switch may not be the original, it’s the correct type but looks too shiny to be 41 years old. However, it does have the original unique flat top Ibanez switch tip.
It’s a fairly heavy guitar, (I’m sure the brass trem assembly adds a pound or two to the guitar) weighs 9 pounds 5.6 ounces on one of my digital scales, 9.36 pounds (i.e. 9 pounds 5.76 ounces) on the other one (a “fish scale” type for weighing luggage). Feels even heavier to me!
There’s a knot and a line in the grain of the wood near the heel of the neck on the bass side by where it meets the body (see pic). This is a natural flaw in the wood under the original finish and is NOT a repair, and of course the knot in no way affects the functionality of the guitar.
Includes the original hardshell case. A small piece of foam was added where the bottom strap button wore through the lining. There are some areas where the vinyl covering is separating at the seams due to natural shrinkage of the material over time. All of the latches and hinges work fine.
Please be sure to check out all 20 pics in the listing! Sold AS IS, no returns or price adjustments.
