1978 Guild G-37 BL incredible guitar! Made in Westerly, Rhode Island, U.S.A. (“BL” = blond finish.)
Solid spruce top, maple sides and back, rosewood fretboard and bridge, arched laminated back, maple neck with walnut center stripe. Some bird’s eye figure in the maple.
Body is 15 7/8” wide at lower bout, 11 9/16” wide at shoulders, 4 9/8” deep at the lower bout, 4 ½” deep at the upper bout, 25 ½” scale length, neck is 1 11/16” wide at the nut. Medium rounded C neck profile.
Serial number 1787** dates to 1978. Sounds fantastic, plays great, VERY low action with no fret buzzing! Has been well played, shows the patina, dings and nicks you’d expect to see on a guitar that’s nearly a half century old and hasn’t spent its life in a closet.
Straight neck, truss rod has room to adjust in both directions.
The guitar has no cracks or repairs, the bridge is not lifting. Neck set is fine. The dark area seen on the lower bass bout is discoloration of the lacquer finish from decades of contact with the player’s right arm, it is NOT worn down to the wood. There’s some worn finish on the binding on the top front edge below the bridge and on the upper side edge below the arm discoloration…the photos tell the story.
The original medium frets have recently been dressed, show NO wear, and have at least 80% height left. New Ernie Ball .011-.052 strings.
