condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Rubicon Company of Philadelphia
This galvanometer made by the Rubicon Company of Philadelphia in 1941 is in excellent condition and in perfect working order. I used it myself for accurate measurements of tiny amounts of electric current. It has a calibrated sensitivity of 0.008 Micro Amps per millimeter of the display scale.

Operation and Description:

This galvanometer detects very small amount of electric current by sending the current through a tiny electromagnet affixed to a small mirror and suspended by a thread between the poles of a permanent magnet. Running a current causes the mirror to move, changing the direction of the light, which can be seen on the scale on the screen at the front of the instrument.

The galvanometer is housed in a rectangular polished wooden box. On the top of the box, there is a brass rod that can be rotated to adjust the location of the light beam that impacts the linear scale in the front of the instrument. There are two electrical terminals affixed to the right side to perform the current measurements. On the left side is an inset male electrical plug, labeled “6 VOLTS” to power the internal light source.
