Up for sale is an original signed Don Voorhees watercolor painting from a private collection, offered for sale by the original owner. The professionally framed painting measures 24" h x 30 1/2" w. Also included is a handwritten note from Don Voorhees to the original owner. Don Voorhees is known for his small format watercolors and lithographs; this large watercolor painting is both notable and unusual in his oeuvre and would be a remarkable and rare acquisition for either a private owner or gallery. Donald Voorhees has been recognized from coast to coast for his outstanding contribution to art and is the recipient of over 100 awards from such prestigious organizations as the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Salmagundi Club of New York City and the New Jersey Water Color Society. He has been cited for his work by the State of New Jersey.
The artist's works have been shown in museums throughout the country, including the Frye Museum, Seattle, Washington; the Edward Dean Museum, Cherry Valley, California; the Central Museum of Wyoming; and the Martello Museum, Key West, Florida. He has exhibited with the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists, Knickerbocker Artists, New Jersey Water Color Society, Hudson Valley Art Association, Salmagundi Club, National Academy of Design, and the National Art Club.
His works are owned by many banks, corporations and public institutions throughout the country including Sun Oil, Gannett Publications, Citibank, Hertz, Pfizer Drug and Bethlehem Steel. Prints from his Americana Series hang in schools, government offices and the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge. His painting "Beckoning Still" is in the collection of former President Reagan, and another of his works hangs in the Chilean Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Voorhees was a member, as well as former president, of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club and other professional organizations. He is listed in "Who's Who in American Art," "Who's Who in the East," and the "Dictionary of International Biography." Stories and articles pertaining to his achievements have been published in numerous magazines, such as: PRINTS, GRAPHICS, THE ARTIST, COLLECTOR'S MART, and the hardcover book GEMS OF NEW JERSEY.
The artist was well known as one of the very best in the field of golf art. He has painted many of the world's famous courses, including Pebble Beach, Augusta, Cypress Point, Harbourtown, Muirfield Village, and Pine Valley. Some of his commissions include those of the USGA, Southern Hills, Tulsa, Dallas Athletic Club, Buick Open, and the American International Group.
The artist's widespread popularity has resulted in a large demand for his "SOLD OUT" prints on the secondary market.
