Looking for Pet Therapy Volunteers! (Ocean, Monmouth, Middlesex & Mercer )
The Mission: To brighten the lives of our patients that are confined to Nursing Homes, Assisted Living and private residences while educating the community on the importance of volunteerism.
Communication Benefits: A visit from a pet makes it easier for two strangers to converse. It gives them a common interest to focus on during the conversation. The pet pays little attention to a patient’s age or physical condition and accepts the patient as they are. The visit leaves behind memories of that day as well as bringing back pleasurable past experiences.
The Goal: To assist our patients in feeling less lonely, hopeless and depressed. We want our patients to feel that someone cares about them.
If you are a certified handler and feel like this is a good opportunity for you and your pet please contact Ralph Addonizio, Volunteer Coordinator for Embracing HospiceCare at 732-974-2545.
